“The course was very informative and well-delivered. The exercises were engaging and enabled us to learn about the different experiences that people are going through both in their lives and at work. It was such a transformative experience for me and I will keep referring to the messages.”

“I was very keen to do this course and have been wanting to do so for a while. I feel better-equipped to support my colleagues and others with a mental health issue and feel my confidence will grow over time. I was also able to identify how better to promote mental health services in my own organisation, as I don’t feel like these are signposted as well as they could be. I liked the way the course was structured and the opportunity to meet others in a conveniently-sized group. The training was intense but I found it interesting and informative.”

“Brilliant course, Ryan and Matt were excellent instructors – they were very conscious of others, and reiterated often that if we needed a break away then we should do so. They had a lovely tone and made me feel at-ease throughout. It was great to have a co-instructor to break-up the course and keep it interesting. The combination of instructor lead learning from slides, videos and breakout groups was really well balanced. The course filled the two days nicely – wasn’t too overloaded but also filled the time well. The workbook was great and will be an excellent resource to report back to. I would not hesitate to recommend the course to other colleagues or friends.”

“Really enjoyed the course, great content, and well delivered. Both facilitators were incredibly knowledgeable and Matt brought to life many instances with real-life situations for contextual purposes. They both stuck to the timings and moved fluidly through. As discussed I feel the app, although new needs to be brought to life more and maybe MHFA could provide a video tutorial on how to use it effectively that we could watch as part of homework or at least preparation. We have now walked a way with a great tool which could be utilised sooner if training were provided.”

“I feel this course is very well done. It is led by professionals who clearly have a wealth of knowledge and experience which I found to be very valuable.”

23rd & 30th October

“This course was so so good. It has given me practical skills in how to support those experiencing a mental health issue which I have already been trying to implement within my role as a befriender. The course has also given me the confidence to speak with people in difficult situations and has reassured me that trying and getting it a bit wrong is always better than not trying at all. I think it’s a really good course for everyone to take as I can see it having a really significant and far-reaching impact on the wellbeing of the population, which could play a significant role in reducing the stigma around talking about mental health. Thanks so much for putting this on for us!”

“I am a trained general and mental health nurse, but this was a long time ago (1977 and then 1985) and more recently (2000s) I wrote distance learning materials on health/ mental health/ social issues, BUT I haven’t worked in the field for 10 years plus, so am rusty and my knowledge is out of date, although I’ve continued to maintain an interest. In addition, I suspect holding a mental health qualification can be positively unhelpful to being a MHFA – if it lead to a tendancy to over-pathologise, or feel an expectation from those around me to demonstrate expertise. As a direct result of this course I will keep focusing on listening, as a lifelong skill that I can always improve. Also I feel better empowered to challenge (in a gentle, non-accusatory, non-judgmental way that opens up a conversation) any rigid, outmoded, ignorant and prejudiced views/ statements concerning MH issues that I come across. This course is probably the most helpful, practical, affirming course I have ever been on! Thank you very much for giving of yourselves in the way you did.”

The smaller discussions and activities keep you engaged, and the delivering style of both Christo and Ryan was excellent. Clearly very knowledgeable of topics covered, but also approached difficult subjects with care, being mindful that many might have their own sensitive experiences. Covering all topics, alongside how to use the ALGEE model in real life situations made it an invaluable course. Excellent Instructors, Brilliant Course.”

As well as providing safety for those who feel the need to step away for a minute. They also employed a great mix of self, group and presentative learning which kept the course fresh and exciting. Would definitely recommend this service to companies or individuals in the future.”

“Prior to the course I had a couple occasions where I was in a situation to provide help to people who needed it with their mental health but did not feel confident in my actions or my word choice. This often in turn left me feeling anxious and worried maybe I had not done the correct thing or I had maybe even made it worse for the individual. After participating in the course I have gained new confidence in my own ability whilst dealing with these sorts of situations and now have a grounding/action plan to use if ever faced with this again. I am really grateful for the opportunity to learn these new skills. Both instructors were engaging and interesting, and used good examples throughout the course. Really enjoyed the break out rooms and the opportunity to speak with the other course delegates as sometimes in the online courses this is missed. I also really found it useful having the manual to hand as I enjoy/benefit reading the information as well as listening.”
